Grab your skates and explore the Rideau Canal Skateway! In winter, the historic Rideau Canal becomes the world’s largest skating rink. The ice extends 7.8-kilometres and runs through the heart of downtown Ottawa. Take our virtual tour for 360° views of this famous skateway.
Grab your skis and head out to the Greenbelt which encircling Ottawa has over 150 kilometers of cross-country ski trails. You can use the trails for free and all are suitable for beginner and family outings. Greenbelt trails are used for cross-country skiing in the winter but there are some great spots for snowshoeing and walking. Of course, Gatineau Park has one of the largest networks of cross-country ski trails in North America with over 50 trails and 55 kilometers of trails that are reserved for snowshoeing.
How about tobogganing which is one of our great Canadian traditions! Pack up the family and head out to one of the National Capital Greenbelt’s toboggan hills. These snowy hills are some of the best in the Ottawa region and will surely thrill both the young and young at heart. The Winterlude festivities and Jacques Cartier Park should be top of mind during this winter season!
